About us

Our journey since 2018

Where Rehori Came from

Rehori was founded in 2018 by Alexandre Fahizi Mtahelwa, a refugee from the DRC. We are dedicated to implementing a range of activities that support protection, education, and economic recovery in the Kakuma and Kalobeyei Integrated Settlement areas. Our organisation is deeply committed to improving the lives of refugees and host communities through sustainable and community-driven initiatives.

We believe in...

In 2023, we partnered with the Danish Refugee Council to implement Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention activities funded by ECHO.

This project focuses on providing life-saving protection support to the most vulnerable individuals, addressing their immediate needs, and creating long-term solutions through community-led protection and awareness programs.

We believe in empowering marginalised groups, promoting cultural diversity, and fostering sustainable development through community-led initiatives and essential skill development.

Our Mission

We envision a thriving, harmonious community where women, men and children from all refugee backgrounds have equal opportunities, their talents nurtured, and they can lead fulfilling, self-reliant lives.

Alexandre's story...

In 2018, Alexandre Fahizi Mtahelwa, originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), turned his personal struggles into a source of hope for others. After enduring severe hardship, including assault and torture by armed groups and even family members in Eastern DRC, Alexandre was forced to flee his homeland. He arrived in Kenya in 2010 as a refugee, facing the daunting task of starting over in a new country. Despite these challenges, Alexandre found strength in his shared experiences with other refugees and asylum seekers, who were also dealing with the pain of displacement. His own journey fueled his commitment to making a difference in their lives. Alexandre founded Rehori at Bar-el Haman Girls Primary School in 2018. This initiative began as a small gathering of hope and mutual support, evolving into a dedicated organisation focused on empowering refugees. Through Rehori, Alexandre and his team have created a community where individuals come together to rebuild their lives and offer support to one another.
