n 2018, Alexandre Fahizi Mtahelwa, originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), turned his personal struggles into a source of hope for others. After enduring severe hardship, including assault and torture by armed groups and even family members in Eastern DRC, Alexandre was forced to flee his homeland. He arrived in Kenya in 2010 as a refugee, facing the daunting task of starting over in a new country.
Despite these challenges, Alexandre found strength in his shared experiences with other refugees and asylum seekers, who were also dealing with the pain of displacement. His own journey fueled his commitment to making a difference in their lives.
Alexandre founded Rehori at Bar-el Haman Girls Primary School in 2018. This initiative began as a small gathering of hope and mutual support, evolving into a dedicated organisation focused on empowering refugees. Through Rehori, Alexandre and his team have created a community where individuals come together to rebuild their lives and offer support to one another.
